US 301/Fort Hamer Road Study

Manatee County, FL — AIM conducted a PD&E study to address the proposed safety improvement to the intersection of US 301 and Fort Hamer Road. The intersection improvement will require the realignment of Fort Hamer Road, which will consist of two 12-foot lanes with 10-foot shoulders (five feet paved) and ditches on both sides of the roadway. The project limits include US 301 from Red Rooster Road to Fort Hamer Road and Fort Hamer Road from Golf Course Road to US 301. AIM performed all engineering, environmental and public involvement tasks for this project. The environmental document for this project was a State Environmental Impact Report (SEIR) – cover shown above. The SEIR was approved by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District One Secretary. Social impacts that were looked at included land use changes, community cohesion, relocation potential, community services, Title VI consideration, controversy potential, utilities, and railroads. Environmental factors including archaeological resources, historical sites, section 4(f) properties, relocations, wetlands, wildlife and habitat, floodplains, noise, and contamination were also analyzed and documented. In addition, AIM conducted an extensive public involvement program which included two newsletters, four special group presentations, and a public hearing.
